All of our educational media resources are available exclusively to non-profit organizations and schools that have joined as Statewide Partners of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
How to Order and Return Media Resources and Guidelines:

Receiving Media Resources:
We mail media resources to borrowing organization via Book Rate to arrive in time for show dates. Or items may be picked up in-person at the Pauley Center (education building) guard desk on the VMFA campus, Monday-Friday, 8:45 am to 4:30 pm, and Saturdays, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Return of Media Resources:
Media resources may be returned by Book Rate mail. In some cases, the borrower may be asked to return items by Overnight or Two-Day delivery. Media resources may also be returned in-person to the Pauley Center main entrance guard desk, Monday-Friday, 8:45 am to 4:30 pm, and Saturdays, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. NOTE: Please do not return resources to the main VMFA building.
Copyright Restrictions:
DVDs, videotapes, and films are protected under the Copyright Law Title 17, U. S. Code (Section 501), effective January 1, 1978. They may not be duplicated, reproduced, televised, edited, or altered in any manner. All DVDs, videotapes, and films are restricted from use for commercial purposes. VMFA has purchased public performance rights to all of our media resources so that they may be shown to groups of viewers at Partner organizations.
Who May Borrow the Media Resources?
Any non-profit organization such as a school, college, university, museum, arts center, library, etc. in the Commonwealth of Virginia may become a Statewide Partner of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and have free and unlimited borrowing privileges of educational media resources.
Age-Level Designations:
Each entry contains a suggested audience age level. Please note that these age levels are provided only as general guidelines. The actual suitability of a DVD, videotape, or film should be determined by a teacher or programmer who is familiar with the maturity of the audience.
Formats:
Most programs in the searchable database catalog are available in either DVD or VHS videotape formats. Some programs are offered in both formats. Before ordering, please check individual program entry to determine which format you need. Vintage 16mm movie films are available by special request.
Free Admission Required:
No fees may be charged for admission to showings of VMFA media resources; VMFA resources are to be used for educational, noncommercial purposes only.
Publicity and Sponsor Credit:
In the development of any printed matter and publicity relating to an educational showing, the following credit must be given: This program has been organized and funded by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Please send copies of all publicity to our office.
Charges:
Media resource loans to our Partners are free of charge. Partners who borrow, however, must pay the cost of return postage to VMFA.
Loan Period:
The standard loan period for our educational media resources is one week from showdate. This period may be extended depending on the availability of the requested materials. It is always appreciated if borrower can return materials within the allowed week.
Cancelations:
Phone in or e-mail your cancelations at least two business days in advance of the scheduled SHIPPING DATE.
When Preparing Materials for Return to Museum:
Please take a moment to fill out the evaluation form found inside the shipping label. Your comments and suggestions are important to us, and your attendance figures keep our program operating!
Liability and Insurance:
Educational resources do not require postal insurance coverage; they are covered, while in transit, by VMFA’s insurance policy. The borrower will be held responsible for damage caused by improper handling and/or faulty equipment. If negligent, the borrower must pay the cost of replacement. Borrower will not be held liable for minor damage that results from normal use.
Distributors for any of our media resources will be provided upon request.
