M.LiT Application Information and Submission

Submissions

In addition to your application form, please submit one of the following:
• Portfolio with three examples of art
• Writing sample
• Teacher recommendation 


Portfolio
 

Originals: Students may submit original artworks for review.

CD or DVD: Applicants may submit their work digitally on a CD or DVD. Discs should be labeled with applicant’s name and contact information. Individual files should be in JPEG (.jpg) format with file sizes not exceeding 1 MB each. Time-based work should be submitted in either QuickTime (.mov) format or Windows Media Video (.wmv).

Digital Prints: Students may submit color digital prints of their work. Individual prints should be no larger than 8 1/2" x 11" and may be printed on any paper. The back of each print should be labeled with the applicant’s name and contact information.


Writing Sample
 

Your writing samples should be in response to one of the following prompts (keep the helpful writing tips below in mind):
A. What do you see as some of the benefits — for yourself and others — in learning about art and art history?
B. Why do you want to be part of this program and what do you hope to gain from your experience? What skills can you offer?

Helpful Tips:
• Write a minimum of three paragraphs
• Read and follow directions
• Be straightforward and confident
• Be specific and add details
• Type your work
• Use 12 pt. Times New Roman font
• Proofread your work


Teacher Recommendation
 

The recommendation should provide insight into your:
• Performance as a student
• Aptitude and industriousness
• Maturity and seriousness of purpose
• Level of commitment and ability to follow through
• Leadership abilities and/or experience
• Character

Teacher recommendations should be written on school letterhead.

Or deliver to VMFA's Pauley Center security desk (Mon – Fri, 9 am – 7 pm or Sat, 9 am – 4 pm). 

Students will receive notification of their acceptance by May 10, 2013. 

Pick up artwork submissions from VMFA’s Pauley Center, Studio A (Mon – Fri, 9 am – 7 pm; Sat, 9 am – 4 pm) after May 13, 2013.
