Nomination Process/Schedule for Richmond Area Students

Standard Nomination Process 

1. Teachers, counselors, principals, or community center leaders must compose a written statement (maximum of 250 words), explaining why the student is a good candidate for this program. Up to two nominees per secondary school or community center may be selected.
This statement should be written on school letterhead and mailed to Jessica Bauserman, Youth Program Coordinator, 200 N. Boulevard, Richmond, Virginia, 23220 or emailed to Jessica Bauserman. The student is responsible for completing the Nomination Application Form.

2. Students may also nominate themselves by completing the Nomination Application Form. They should also include a written statement, describing their interest in art and fashion design, previous experience (none is required), and a description of the garment they would create if they had unlimited funds and materials (minimum of 250 words).

3. Students will receive confirmation of their nomination or be notified of acceptance via email or phone by Tue, Oct 2, 2012. 
 

Requirements 

Richmond-area participants must attend the Orientation, Creative Clothing Workshops, Dress Rehearsal, and the “Fire and Ice” student exhibition. See schedules below. If students are unable to adhere to their chosen schedule, they may be dismissed from the program.

This year’s Creative Clothing Workshop program is led by artist and designer Maureen Regulinski with guest visits by jewelry designers Robin Kranitzky and Kim Overstreet and glassblower Ryan Gothrup, along with theater production managers and stylists.

Judging will take place on the night of the event. For each award category, designers in grades 6 – 8 will compete for VMFA Fashion Institute certificate valued at $810 and designers in grades 9 – 12 will compete for a free trip to New York City. 

The fashion renderings of all Teen Stylin’ participants will be displayed in the Art Education Center Dec 7, 2012 – Jan 30, 2013. Garments of winners and runners-up will also be displayed Dec 11, 2012 – Jan 30, 2013.
